Murphy’s Sarah Schireman was just on the awards podium again. This time, she didn’t receive a first-place medal.
Schireman took second in the 2A triple jump, finishing behind Elma’s Brandi Thomas, who won for the second straight year.
OK, that’s enough blogging for today. The final day of competition is Saturday. The first events begin at 10 a.m.

Coming into the 2A meet with lofty goals, Archbishop Murphy’s Sarah Schireman just took an important step.
Schireman, who hopes to win four individual events this weekend, just blazed to a victory in the 2A girls 100-meter hurdles. She got off to an excellent start and won handily. Her winning time was 14.71 seconds.
Now the ultra-busy Schireman is on the awards podium. In a few minutes she’ll jog over to the opposite end of the stadium for the triple jump competition.
More updates:
*Edmonds-Woodway’s Alec Fellows earned his second top-eight finish of the day. He took third in the 4A 110 hurdles in a personal-best time of 14.6.
*Cascade’s Brittany Jones placed fifth in the 4A girls discus. Her top throw was 119-8. Entering the meet, Jones was ranked No. 1. She finished fourth last year.
*Glacier Peak’s Stephenie Cummings won her preliminary heat in the 3A 400. Her time was 57.38.

OK, I’m officially fried to a crisp. I guess the early-morning coat of sun block I put on isn’t helping any more.
I just got back to the press box after watching the 3A boys javelin finals. Everett’s Malaki Seanoa placed seventh, but the big story was Bellevue’s Robert Hintz. Hintz successfully defended his state title and broke the meet record.
Hintz’s fifth throw of event traveled an astonishing 211 feet, surpassing the old 3A meet record of 202-10 set by Renton’s Jason Harris in 2006.
Everett’s Malaki and the other competitors cheered on Hintz, as did the crowd. Before his final throw, fans clapped in synch, trying to psych up Hintz for another big toss.
Here are some other results I haven’t posted yet:
*Lakewood’s Spencer Hulslander placed seventh in the 2A boys pole vault. He cleared 13-6. The winner, Ephrata’s Wes Chamberlin, earned his third straight title, clearing 15-8. He broke his own 2A meet record by 3 inches.
*Shorecrest’s 400 relay team (Marisa Brown, Lynleigh Oliver, Nicole Harris, Alexis Ramos) won its preliminary heat in 49.08.

I just finished a quick lunch break. Now it’s time to walk back to the throwing pits behind the stadium. I’m going to watch Everett’s Malaki Seanoa in the 3A boys javelin. He is seeded No. 1 based on his best throw from a week ago, which broke the school and district records.
A few more updates:
*Cedarcrest’s Freddie Stevens placed sixth in the 2A boys shot put. His best throw was 52 feet, 0.75 inch.
*Lake Stevens’ Eric Huswick took seventh in the 4A boys discus. His best mark was 150-1. Huswick placed sixth in the shot put Thursday.
*South Whidbey’s Cayla Calderwood finished tied for seventh in the 2A girls high jump. Calderwood cleared 5 feet (4 inches lower than the winner).
*Shorecrest’s Caroline Towles placed eighth in the 3A girls javelin. Her top throw went 116 feet, 11 inches.
*Archbishop Murphy’s Sarah Schireman won her preliminary heat in the 2A girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.93. The second-fastest qualifier’s time was 46.44. Schireman has two finals today: 100 hurdles and triple jump. She has a chance to win four individual events this weekend.

Two state titles in less than 24 hours. Not bad, right?
Snohomish’s Marlyn Anderson just climbed to the top of the podium after winning the 4A boys discus championship. His winning throw traveled 159 feet, 11 inches and it came on his third of six attempts.
Anderson is now a two-time state champ. He won the shot put event Thursday evening.
“What an incredible finish. How could you ask for anything better?” Snohomish track coach Tuck Gionet said.
Anderson’s winning throw was significantly shorter than his personal record (168-10). But he was by far the most consistent thrower today and beat the second-place finisher by 3 feet.
Here are some other updates:
*Jackson’s Dan Truong and Edmonds-Woodway’s Alec Fellows placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 4A boys triple jump. Their top marks were 44-4.5 and 44-1.5. Snohomish’s Christopher Rusnak was eighth (43-0.5).
*Cedarcrest’s Jackson Pleis cleared 6 feet and tied for seventh place in the 2A boys high jump.

I’m getting ready to trek over to the discus pit, where Snohomish’s Marlyn Anderson will try for his second state title in less than 24 hours. He is seeded No. 1 in the 4A boys discus.
On Thursday during the 4A shot put competition (won by Anderson) the other two District 1 participants — Lake Stevens’ Eric Huswick and Cascade’s AJ Mecum — rooted for Anderson the whole way. The trio, all from the Wesco North, developed a special camaraderie this spring, Anderson said.
“All season, we gave each other support,” said Anderson.
When Anderson won, Huswick and Mecum both walked up to Anderson and gave him a big bear hug.

It’s another beautiful day here at Mount Tahoma Stadium. Day two of the 2A, 3A and 4A state track and field championships is already moving at full speed, with several morning field finals completed and track prelims underway.
It was an exciting morning for Lakewood High teammates Cameron Hess and Payden Butler. The seniors placed second and third, respectively, in the 2A boys javelin.
Hess was seeded 10th coming into the meet, but he broke his personal record by 9 feet and placed in the top eight for the first time in three trips to state.
Elsewhere this morning:
*Everett’s Bobby Rodgers finished fifth in the 3A boys shot put (149-11). Glacier Peak’s John Froland was eighth (143-11).
*Stanwood’s Trista Peterson placed seventh in the 4A girls shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 2.5 inches. Peterson, a senior, was seeded fourth.
