LAKEWOOD – Led by twin sisters Zoe and Chenoa Urness, the Stanwood girls finished first Wednesday at the Western Conference 3A meet at Lakewood H.S..
Brittany Duke of Jackson finished the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 54 seconds to claim the individual title. Jackson finished second as a team.
Chenoa (20:24) and Zoe Urness (20:27) have both been hobbled with an assortment of injuries recently, but it did not affect the Spartans, who won easily. Stanwood coach Paul Johnson said he was very pleased with how the team was able to run in a pack at the front. The Spartans claimed six of the top 12 spots.
“Our top four were only about 10 seconds apart, and our fifth runner was only about 20 seconds behind them,” said Johnson. “That’s what we always try to accomplish.”
Stanwood’s Corri Roark and Erica Preboski finished fifth and six, respectively, just behind Arlington’s Breann Pickett.
Amber Nickelson (Lake Stevens), Emily Kuhlman (Lake Stevens), Trina Dutton (Stanwood) and Sarah Revoyr (Lynnwood) rounded out the top 10.
