Paul Rabil netted three goals and two assist as the United States maintained its second spot in blue group play with a 17-5 win over host nation England at the FIL World Lax Championships Monday.
Stealth forward Lewis Ratcliff had one goal for England.
In other blue group play, Canada beat Germany 23-4. Washington forward Rhys Duch didn’t reach the scoresheet in the blowout win for the Canadians.
Cornell University signee Sten Jernudd (Seattle Lakeside H.S. grad) scored two goals and Issaquah senior-to-be Kevin Powers added one goal as Sweden couldn’t overcome a 7-0 deficit in a 12-7 loss to Ireland.
Sweden plays the Czech Republic, a team which defeated the Swedes 9-6 on Sunday to grab first place in the red group, in a bracket game Tuesday. The winner will face the loser between Wales and the Netherlands on Wednesday, while the loser plays the winner of Latvia vs. New Zealand.
In blue group play on Tuesday, the US faces Japan while Canada and England square off in the final group play matches of the tournament.
