SEATTLE — While the University of Washington still waits, along with several other high-profile schools, for word on the college choice of McDonald’s All-American Terrance Jones out of Portland, the Huskies are reportedly on the verge of adding another big man to the program.
Seven-foot center Aziz N’diaye, who sat out his sophomore season at Southern Idaho College because of a torn ACL, told the Twin Falls (Idaho) Times-News that he has chosen UW over Oklahoma.
N’diaye told The Times-News that the Huskies’ recent success was a factor in him choosing UW over the struggling Sooners.
“I feel more comfortable going to Washington,” he told The Times-News. “They’re going to lose one senior — Quincy Pondexter — and they need a big man in there.”
UW returns starting center Matthew Bryan-Amaning and reserves Darnell Gant and Tyreese Breshers, but none of them is taller than 6-9.
N’diaye will immediately become one of the biggest players in the Pac-10. The native of Sengal averaged 8.5 points and 7.9 rebounds as a Southern Idaho freshman in 2008-09. He underwent surgery for the torn ACL in his right knee in June.
Now the Huskies will wait on word from Jones, a 6-8 power forward who is ranked as the nation’s No. 13 high school prospect by Rivals.com. According to Rivals, Jones made visits to UW, Kentucky, UCLA and Oklahoma.
Jones is one of five of Rivals’ top 15 players who have yet to sign, and four of them have listed Kentucky among their final choices while waiting word on UK’s current group of freshmen. Five Wildcats left early for the NBA, clearing the way for Jones and several others to play right away at Kentucky if they so choose.
