The University of Washington men’s basketball team was picked as the overwhelming favorite to win the Pac-10 title this season.
In a vote made at the conference’s annual media day on Thursday, the Huskies received 33 of a possible 35 first-place votes. Arizona and UCLA were the only other teams to receive first-place votes.
The Huskies, who won the Pac-10 tournament title last year, are followed by Arizona, UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State in the poll. USC is picked to finish sixth, followed by Cal, Oregon State, Stanford and Oregon under new coach Dana Altman.
The Huskies return four starters from last year’s team and were the only Pac-10 team to be among the top 25 teams in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll that came out earlier this month. UW was ranked 17th.
The Huskies also were the only Pac-10 team ranked in The Associated Press preseason Top 25, which was released Thursday. The UW is 18th. Gonzaga is 12th.
