The 24th-ranked University of Washington men’s basketball team placed four men in double figures to defeat Westmont College 92-52 in an exhibition season-opener Tuesday night in Bank of America Arena.
Brandon Roy scored 22 points to lead the Huskies before an estimated crowd of 3,300. Roy, a 6-foot-6 junior, connected on 10-of-12 shots and grabbed six rebounds.
The Huskies broke the game open in the second half, outscoring Westmont – an NAIA school from Santa Barbara, Calif. – 49-23.
The Huskies shot 51.4 from the field and assisted on 28 of 37 baskets.
Nate Robinson, the leading scorer from a year ago, pitched in 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Mike Jensen had 11 points and Joel Smith, a 6-4 freshman from Lompoc, Calif., added 10.
The Huskies outrebounded the Warriors, 37-23.
