SEATTLE — Danielle Lawrie fired a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts, and Niki Williams drove in the only run of the game in the third inning to lead the No. 1 Washington softball team to a 1-0 victory over Oregon State on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.
After outscoring the Beavers 22-1 over the first two games, the Huskies (40-5, 12-3) struggled to generate offense against Oregon State’s Marina Demore, who struck out 13 and limited UW to just three hits. But Williams, who went 4-for-7 in the three games, and Lawrie did enough to keep UW in first place in the conference.
Arizona’s loss gave UW a two-game lead with six left to play. Since the Huskies hold the tiebreaker over second-place Arizona and UCLA, their magic number to clinch at least a share of their third Pac-10 title is just three.
