Huskies lead 31-30 at half
Washington has the lead at halftime, but that wasn’t an ideal finish for the Huskies. The Huskies turned the ball over on each of their last two possession, the second one coming with 3.5 seconds when Venoy Overton tried to get a pass to Jon Brockman in the paint.
Daniel Hackett then hit a running 30 footer at the buzzer to pull USC to within one.
USC freshman DeMar DeRozan is putting on a show with 12 points in the first half on five of six shooting, but he did pick up his third fould late in the half, so that could limit his playing time in the second half.
Justin Dentmon and Quincy Pondexter each have seven points to lead the Huskies, and Pondexter also has four assists. Jon Brockman has just one point so far, though he does have six rebounds.
USC 23, Washington 21, 3:54 left in first half
For those watching at home looking for an explanation on that double-foul call, well, I can’t help you. For those of you that missed it, this officiating crew somehow decided to call a double foul, giving the offensive player a player control foul and giving Isaiah Thomas a blocking foul.
Yeah, doesn’t make sense to me either. It has to be one or the other, right? Apparently not.
As for the rest of the game, USC was trailing early in the half, but used a 9-0 to build a six-point lead. A Thomas free throw finally ended that run, and the Huskies are now battling back.
Huskies out to an early lead
Like I said in the last post, this is gonna be a thin addition of a game thread because of Brandon Roy pregame stuff and deadline issues, but I’ll try to check in when I can.
Anyway, the Huskies just took a 15-12 lead midway through the half after back-to-back USC turnovers led to baskets.
So Far Matthew Bryan-Amaning leads the Huskies with six points.
And while it didn’t quite match Roy’s ovation earlier, new football coach Steve Sarkisian just got a nice reaction from the crowd when he was shown on the video screen.
