Washington women’s basketball coach Tia Jackson announced Tuesday that the team has signed Australian Nicole Romeo as part of next season’s recruiting class.
Romeo, a 5-foot-6 point guard joins other Class of 2008 recruits Kristi Kingma (Mill Creek), Liz Lay (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Mollie Williams (Cerritos, Calif.).
The Huskies unexpectedly had scholarships available after three of last season’s freshmen left the program.
Romeo, who is from Adelaide, South Australia, led the South Australian team to the Under-20 Australian National Championship gold medal in 2008, and to a bronze medal in 2007. The Australian Basketball Association awarded her the 2007 Merv Harris Medal as the country’s best women’s Under-21 player.
