UW women win, Greenlake falls at Henley Regatta

HENLEY, England — The University of Washington beat a Spanish crew from Real Sevilla and Real Mediterranoe de Malaga by 3 lengths Friday in the quarterfinals of the Ladies’ Plate for international eights at Henley Royal Regatta on the Thames.

Washington will meet a British national squad development crew today.

In the quarterfinals of the Thames Cup for club eights, Green Lake Crew, from Seattle, went down by 1½ lengths to England’s Griffen Boat Club. In the Temple Cup for student eights, Harvard University emerged victorious in the all-American quarterfinal against the University of Virginia by 1 2/3 lengths to move into the semifinals against Newcastle University, from the north of England.

Harvard University “B” downed Northeastern University Alumni by 1¾ lengths in an all-American quarterfinal of the Visitors’ Cup for student and club coxless fours despite trailing by a length at the one-mile mark. In the same event, Harvard’s “A” crew beat an English composite crew.

from Taurus and Star clubs to win by 1¾ lengths.

In the Junior Women’s Quadruple Sculls quarterfinals, Bromfield Acton-Boxborough Rowing Club from Harvard lost its opener to England’s Gloucester Rowing Club by 2 3/4 lengths.
