Silvertips associate head coach Jay Varady was named today to the coaching staff for Team USA’s evaluation camp for the World Junior Hockey Championships. What that means is that from Aug. 1-9 he’ll be in Lake Placid, N.Y., helping decide who’s good enough for the U.S. World Junior team for 2009. That’s quite an honor, and I imagine that because of politics it’s rare for a coach from the CHL to be invited into the process.
And for anyone who might be concerned, they needn’t worry. He’ll still be behind the bench with the Tips next season.
