First off, here’s video of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll speaking about bringing back Archbishop Murphy High School grad Taniela Tupou:

The other big piece of news Monday was Carroll announcing this season’s captains:
Offensive captain: Quarterback Russell Wilson.
Defensive captain: Strong safety Kam Chancellor.
Special teams captains: Punter Jon Ryan and cornerback DeShawn Shead.
Wilson and Ryan return as captains from last season. Chancellor was a captain in 2014, but linebacker Bobby Wagner served as defensive captain last season because Chancellor was still holding out at the start of the season. Shead is a first-time captain. The captains were chosen in a vote among the players.
Other notes from Monday:
– Garry Gilliam has won the battle to start at right tackle. Gilliam, who started there last season, had been in a competition with free-agent signing J’Marcus Webb. Webb will serve as the back-up at both tackle positions.
– Carroll said tight end Jimmy Graham (knee) is preparing as if he’s playing in Sunday’s season opener vs. Miami, but that the team does not have the expectation that he’ll play.
– Defensive tackle Jarran Reed (toe) practiced Monday and should be ready to go for Sunday. Tight end Nick Vannett (ankle) won’t make it back for the opener, but the Seahawks hope he’ll be ready the following week.
– Dewey McDonald, acquired from Oakland on Saturday, is listed as a safety. However, the Seahawks plan to try him out as a weakside linebacker.
– Carroll said the team’s decision to waive/injured veteran defensive tackle Jordan Hill was because of Hill’s inability to stay healthy. His latest ailment is a hamstring issue.
– Defensive tackle Justin Hamilton, who was waived when the Seahawks claimed defensive tackle Garrison Smith off waivers from San Francisco, was back at practice as he’s been added to Seattle’s practice squad.
