The Seahawks now host the surging Atlanta Falcons this Sunday. Atlanta, coached by former Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, is 4-1 and coming off back-to-back weeks in which it knocked off last season’s Super Bowl participants, and the Falcons are leading the NFL in both scoring and yardage. So they’ll present a challenge.
It’s the type of challenge Seattle hasn’t faced yet this season, too. According to FootballOutsiders.com the Seahawks have had the lowest strength of schedule thus far, and Seattle’s four opponents have a combined record of 6-14. The Seahawks have only played one team that currently has a winning record, the Los Angeles Rams, and lost. So even though Seattle is coming off back-to-back impressive victories, the schedule begins in earnest this week.
Here’s one interesting additional note. The Falcons chose not to return home following Sunday’s 23-16 victory at Denver. Instead, Atlanta traveled straight to Seattle and will spend the week practicing at the University of Washington. This is unusual, but it does mean the Falcons avoid having to take long flights west in consecutive weeks.
