Vikings vault to first

SNOHOMISH – The Lake Stevens Vikings found themselves in waters they’ve rarely traveled Thursday night when they beat Wesco North co-leader Snohomish 3-1.

Combined with Cascade’s tie with Arlington, Lake Stevens vaulted over the Bruins, Panthers and idle Monroe into first place in the division with15 points.

“It’s like this every night,” Vikings coach Dianne Mattingly said. “Nobody is head and shoulders above everybody else. Nobody is able to pull away.”

Lake Stevens’ Amanda Zueger, a midfielder last year who has been moved to the front line, had the first goal of the game and an assist.

“We put her up front and just got new life out of her,” Mattingly said. “She’s excited about the position.”

Mattingly said the goal Zueger scored on looked like a scrum in front of the goal. She said the Vikings put pressure on the Snohomish goal the entire game.
