KEIZER, Ore. – The Everett AquaSox received a little help Wednesday night.

The AquaSox took advantage of six Salem-Keizer errors to defeat the Volcanoes 5-2 in a Northwest League contest.

Everett (34-25) won two of three in the three-game series and remained two games ahead of Vancouver for first place in the West Division.

Salem-Keizer fell to 30-29. Everett and Salem-Keizer renew their rivalry Friday in Everett.

Matt Tuiasosopo’s two-run single in the top of the sixth inning gave the AquaSox the lead for good at 3-2, but just one of Everett’s five runs was earned.

Everett starting pitcher Aaron Trolia, making the first start of his professional career, lived on the edge but managed to toss four shutout innings. He gave up three hits, three walks and hit two batters, twice leaving the bases loaded. He struck out five in getting a no-decision.

Vance Hall was credited with the win, pitching three innings of relief to improve to 3-0. He gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits and struck out two.

Mark Lowe pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save of the season.

Everett took the lead in the top of the first inning when Asdrubal Cabrera hit a two-out double, stole third and scored when catcher Todd Jennings’ throw deflected off the glove of third baseman Simon Klink for an error, giving the AquaSox a 1-0 advantage.

Salem-Keizer then went ahead in the fifth. Brian Horwitz led off with a single and moved to third on Klink’s double. Horwitz scored on Will Thompson’s groundout to short to tie it, and Klink scored when third baseman Brent Johnson threw away Jennings’ grounder to third, giving the Volcanoes a 2-1 lead.

Everett regained the lead in the sixth when the AquaSox loaded the bases with nobody out on a single, an error and a walk. Tuiasosopo followed with a single to center, scoring two and giving Everett a 3-2 lead.

The AquaSox added to their lead in the seventh, thanks to a trio of Salem-Keizer errors. Cabrera scored when Jennings dropped a throw at home, and Brandon Green scored when first baseman Thompson booted a grounder, giving Everett a 5-2 lead.
