Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for April 12-18

The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 12-18. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll. Last week’s winner is included below.

Kale Hammer | Snohomish | Baseball

Hammer, a sophomore, went 2-for-3 with a home run, triple and three RBI, and also struck out seven batters in three hitless innings of relief as Snohomish beat Archbishop Murphy 7-1 on April 7. He won The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week poll by claiming 299 of 1,318 (22.7%) votes.

Heather Broyles | Arlington | Softball

Broyles, a senior, hit a grand slam in the Eagles’ 14-2 victory over Marysville Getchell on April 12.

Kaden Chidester | Lake Stevens | Boys track and field

Chidester, a junior, won the triple jump, the long jump and was a member of the Vikings’ winning 4×400 relay team in a meet against Snohomish on April 15 at Lake Stevens High School.

Alex Hristov | Kamiak | Boys soccer

Hristov, a senior, scored two goals in the Knights’ 4-3 victory over Monroe on April 13. He also scored a goal and added an assist in Kamiak’s 3-0 win over Meadowdale on April 16.

Bradley Johnson | Marysville Getchell | Baseball

Johnson, a sophomore, allowed one run and struck out seven batters over six innings to pick up the win the Chargers as they beat Stanwood, 6-1, on April 14. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.

Ronny Kildall | Everett | Boys golf

Killdal, a senior, finished first in two matches this past week. He won won a four-team match at Legion Golf Course in Everett on Apirl 13 with an even-par 36 and a five-team match at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville on April 15 with a 3-over-par 38.

Elora Kim | Mariner | Girls tennis

Kim picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 singles match as the Marauders edged Cascade 4-3 on April 13.

Kaddy Kongira | Edmonds-Woodway | Girls track and field

Kongira, a senior, won the 100- and 200-meter sprints and was also a member of relay teams that won the 4×100 and 4×200 races during a meet against Shorecrest and Everett on April 15 at Shoreline Stadium.

Cameron Mooring | Arlington | Boys soccer

Mooring, a junior, scored both of his team’s goals as the Eagles defeated Jackson 2-0 on April 16. He also provided Arlington with a score in its 11-1 win over Lakewood on April 13.

Bree Nichols | Snohomish | Girls track and field

Nichols, a senior, won the high jump, triple jump and long jump in a meet against Lake Stevens on April 15. Her mark of 17 feet, 5 inches in the long jump was nearly 2 feet ahead of her closest competitor.

Sarah Reitz | Meadowdale | Girls golf

Reitz, a junior, posted the top score in a two-team match with a 12-over-par 45 at Lynnwood Golf Course on April 15. She also finished first in a three-team match with a 12-over-par 46 at Nile Shrine Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace on April 14.

Yanina Sherwood | Jackson | Softball

Sherwood, a freshman, struck out 13 as she tossed a one-hit shutout in the Timberwolves’ 2-0 win over Snohomish on April 13. She delivered another 13-strikeout performance while tossing a complete game and allowing three unearned runs and four hits in a 9-3 victory over Lake Stevens on April 16.

Trae Tingelstad | Marysville Pilchuck | Boys track and field

Tingelstad, a senior, won the 110-meter hurdles, the 300 hurdles, the triple jump and was a member of Marysville Pilchuck’s winning 4×400 relay team during a meet against Archbishop Murphy on April 15 at Quil Ceda Stadium.
