Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for April 17-23

The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 17-23. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Grant Buckmiller | Lake Stevens | Boys Track and Field

Buckmiller, a senior, posted a personal-best time of 47.10 seconds in the 400 meters to claim first place at the Pasco Invitational on April 15. His time ranks first in Class 4A and is over 3.04 seconds better than his nearest competitor, according to athletic.net. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for April 10-16 by claiming 625 (35.1%) of 1,782 votes.

This week’s nominees

Logan Anderson | Shorewood | Baseball

Anderson, a senior, fanned seven batters and allowed just five hits over 7.2 scoreless innings in the Stormrays’ 1-0 victory over Mountlake Terrace in eight innings on April 19.

Skyla Bristol | Snohomish | Softball

Bristol, a senior, allowed one unearned run and struck out 18 over eight hitless innings and also went 8-for-10 with three doubles, three RBI and three walks at the plate during a 3-0 week for the Panthers. Her efforts included pitching four shutout innings and striking out nine in a combined no-hitter against Marysville Getchell on April 18.

Kalia Estes | Kamiak | Girls Track and Field

Estes, a senior, posted winning times in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles events at the Eason Invitational at Snohomish High School on April 22. She ran the 100 hurdles in 15.29 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 45.14 seconds.

Jacob Kang | Jackson | Boys Golf

Kang, a sophomore, earned medalist honors at a pair of Wesco 4A matches over the week. He shot a 3-under 33 at Mill Creek Country Club on April 17 and recorded an even-par 36 at Walter Hall Golf Course on April 20.

Avery Keith | Snohomish | Boys Track and Field

Keith, a senior, ran a personal-best 49.44 seconds in the 400 meters to claim first place in the event at the Eason Invitational at Snohomish High School on April 22. He also ran the anchor leg for the Panthers’ victorious 4×400 relay team.

Paige Oliver | Edmonds-Woodway | Girls Tennis

Oliver, a senior, went 3-0 in her No. 1 singles matches while helping the Warriors to a 2-1 week. Her efforts included knocking off Shorewood’s Rylie Gettmann 6-1, 6-4 on April 19 in a matchup of returning Class 3A state singles qualifiers.

Kiana Schroeder | Lakewood | Girls Golf

Schroeder, a junior, fired a 6-over 79 and tied for second at the 24-team Burlington-Edison Invite at Skagit Valley Golf & Country Club on April 18.
