Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for April 5-11

The Athlete of the Week nominees for April 5-11. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll. Last week’s winner is included below.

James Yoon | Jackson | Football

Yoon, a junior, drilled a 44-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to give the Timberwolves their first win since Oct. 26, 2018 with a 36-34 victory over Everett. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week poll for March 29-April by claiming 613 of 2,136 (28.7%) votes.

Note: Athlete of the Week winners aren’t eligible for a nomination the following week.

This week’s nominees:

Alexis Allen | Lakewood | Girls track and field

Allen, a senior, won the 100-meter race, long jump and triple jump in a meet against Everett on April 8. Allen ran the 100 in 14.02 seconds and posted marks of 15 feet, 9.75 inches in the long jump and 23-6.75 in the triple jump. Her long jump mark was best among all Wesco competitors, according to Athletic.net.

Gabriel Andre | Everett | Boys track and field

Andre, a senior, recorded distances of 21 feet, 8.5 inches in the long jump and 45-1 in the triple jump on his way to a pair of victories in a meet against Lakewood on April 8. Andre’s jumps are tops among Wesco 3A athletes, according to Athletic.net.

Brenden Charbeneau | Jackson | Boys track and field

Charbeneau, a senior, won the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter races in a meet against Shorewood on April 8. His time of 2 minutes, 3.58 seconds in 800, 4:28.62 in the 1600 and 9:47.07 in the 3200 leads Wesco 4A, according to Athletic.net.

Ryan Contreras | Jackson | Baseball

Contreras, a senior, went 4-for-5 with a triple, five RBI and two runs scored in the Timberwolves’ 16-0 win over Everett on April 8.

Ashtyn Falor | Lakewood | Softball

Falor, a senior, had a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning and hit a three-run home run earlier in the game to lift Lakewood to a 4-3 win over Lake Stevens on April 7.

Ellie Gilbert | Mountlake Terrace | Softball

Gilbert, a freshman, went 4-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and two RBI in the Hawks’ 22-6 win over Lynnwood on April 7.

Kale Hammer | Snohomish | Baseball

Hammer, a sophomore, went 2-for-3 with a home run, triple and three RBI, and also struck out seven hitters in three hitless innings of relief as Snohomish beat Archbishop Murphy 7-1 on April 7.

Keira Marsh | Arlington | Girls track and field

Marsh, a junior, posted the top Wesco 3A marks in the 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump in a meet against Glacier Peak on April 8, according to Athletic.net. She ran the 100 hurdles 18.42 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 51.27 seconds and posted a mark of 5 feet in the high jump.

Issey Tanimura | Shorewood | Boys golf

Tanimura, a junior, shot an even-par 33 and finished four strokes in front of his nearest competitor in a five-team match at Nile Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace on April 7.

Beckham Uderitz | Snohomish | Boys soccer

Uderitz, a senior, scored three goals in the Panthers’ 4-1 win over Stanwood on April 9.

Yuri Yang | Kamiak | Girls tennis

Yang, a junior, won both of her No. 3 singles matches this week for the Knights. Yang opened the season April 8 with a 6-3, 7-6(7-3) over Edmonds-Woodway’s Emma Wetzel and knocked off Shorecrest’s Flora Cummings 6-1, 6-3 on April 9.
