Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Dec. 20-26

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Dec. 20-26. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Last week’s winner

Mya Sheffield | Mountlake Terrace | Girls Basketball

Sheffield, a junior, hit a game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds as the Hawks edged Edmonds School District rival Meadowdale 44-42 on Dec. 17. Sheffield scored all 17 of her points in the second half. She won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for Dec. 13-19 by claiming 249 (31.1%) of 801 votes.

This week’s nominees

Vivienne Berrett | Stanwood | Girls Basketball

Berrett, a junior, led the Spartans with 16 points in a 54-31 Wesco 3A/2A win over Shorewood on Dec. 22. She also paced Stanwood with 19 points in a 56-48 loss to Class 2B state-title contender La Conner on Dec. 21.

Nayella George | Kamiak | Girls Basketball

George, a junior, poured in a game-high 21 points in the Knights’ 57-35 non-league victory over South Kitsap on Dec. 20.

Jailin Johnson | Mariner | Boys Basketball

Johnson, a junior, netted a game-high 28 points as the Marauders fell 73-61 against Class 2A powerhouse Lynden on Dec. 22. He added 10 points in Mariner’s 92-40 rout of Marysville Pilchuck on Dec. 23.
