Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Feb. 13-19

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Feb. 13-19. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Evan Wold | Archbishop Murphy | Boys Swim & Dive

Wold, a sophomore, swam winning times in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke at the 2A District 1 swim and dive championships on Feb. 11. Wold finished the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 3.50 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.29. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Feb. 6-12 by claiming 1,290 (50.4%) of 2,560 votes.

This week’s nominees

Connor Aney | Glacier Peak | Boys Wrestling

Aney, a sophomore, pulled out a 5-4 ultimate tiebreaker victory over Sunnyside’s Mateo Armendariz to secure the 4A 285-pound state title at Mat Classic XXXIV on Feb. 18.

Karianne Baldwin | Glacier Peak | Girls Wrestling

Baldwin, a junior, capped a perfect 50-0 season by pinning Union’s Niah Cassidy in the second period to win the 3A/4A 125-pound title at Mat Classic XXXIV on Feb. 18. It was Baldwin’s second consecutive state title.

Tre Haines | Arlington | Boys Wrestling

Haines, a freshman, knocked off title favorite Ethan Freund of Kelso in the semifinals and outlasted Mt. Spokane’s Hudson Buth in a 3-1 decision in the finals to claim the 3A 138-pound title at Mat Classic XXXIV on Feb. 18. He became the first Arlington freshman to win a state title in wrestling.

Sean Neils | Shorecrest | Boys Swim & Dive

Neils, a senior, earned a pair of top-five individual medals and helped the Scots’ 200-yard freestyle and 400 freestyle relay teams to top-six finishes at the 3A boys swim and dive state championships on Feb. 18. He placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle.

Gia Powell | Meadowdale | Girls Basketball

Powell, a junior, broke a pair of single-game school records with 41 points and nine 3-pointers as the Mavericks bested Monroe 73-51 in a loser-out game at the 3A District 1 tournament Feb. 14. She also scored a team-high 17 points to help Meadowdale clinch a state berth with a 64-26 win over Snohomish on Feb. 16.

Hunter Tibodeau | Shorewood | Boys Wrestling

Tibodeau, a senior, was in full control of his title match as he bested Chief Sealth’s Dayne Camacho by a 7-0 decision to earn the 3A 220-pound state title at Mat Classic XXXIV on Feb. 18.

Alivia White | Marysville Pilchuck | Girls Wrestling

White, a senior, became the first girls wrestler from Snohomish County to win three state titles after piling up four straight first-period pins on her way to the 3A/4A 190-pound championship at Mat Classic XXXIV on Feb. 18. White needed just 50 seconds to pin Bellingham School District’s Isabella Phillips in the finals.

Isaiah White | Everett | Boys Basketball

White, a junior, made four free throws in the closing moments to help Everett seal up its first state tournament berth since 2000 with a 58-54 victory over Marysville Getchell in a winner-to-state, loser-out 3A District 1 tournament game Feb. 18. White finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
