Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Feb. 14-20

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Feb. 14-20. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Noah Henderson | Cascade | Boys Swim & Dive

Henderson, a junior, claimed victories in the 200-yard individual medley (1 minute, 59.89 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (59.90) with state qualifying times at the Class 3A District 1 boys swim and dive championships on Feb. 12. Henderson won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for Feb. 7-13 by claiming 625 (29.6%) of 2,110 votes.

This week’s nominees

Karianne Baldwin | Glacier Peak | Girls Wrestling

Baldwin, a sophomore, had two points and wins by decision and major decision on her way to claiming the girls 125-pound title at Mat Classic XXXIII on Feb. 18 and 19.

Vivienne Berrett | Stanwood | Girls Basketball

Berrett, a junior, averaged 23.5 points on 73% shooting and added eight rebounds over two games while helping Stanwood clinch a state berth and advance to the Class 3A District 1 title game. Her performance included a 27-point outing in a 54-46 win over Snohomish in the district semifinals on Feb. 15.

Jaden Cardona | Lake Stevens | Boys Swim & Dive

Cardona, a senior, took second place in the diving event at the Class 4A boys swim and dive state championships on Feb. 19. Cardona racked up a score of 428.35 points, which was 90.95 points more than the 3A champion and 117.4 points above the 2A champion.

Jensen Elsemore | Jackson | Boys Swim & Dive

Elsemore, a senior, took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 44.13 seconds) and sixth in the 100 freestyle at the Class 4A boys swim and dive state championships on Feb. 19. Elsemore also helped Jackson’s 400 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay teams to third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively. His performance helped the Timberwolves earn a program-best third-place finish in team scoring.

Jacob Erickson | Glacier Peak | Boys Wrestling

Erickson, a senior, picked up two pins and wins by decision and technical fall on his way to claiming the Class 4A 220-pound state title at Mat Classic XXXIII on Feb. 18 and 19.

Alex Rapelje | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys Wrestling

Rapelje, a senior, claimed his second career state title with two pins and wins by major decision and decision in the Class 3A 152-pound weight class at Mat Classic XXXIII on Feb. 18 and 19.

Justice Taylor | Lakewood | Boys Basketball

Taylor, a senior, connected of five 3-pointers and poured in 36 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, as Lakewood beat Burlington-Edison 71-58 on Feb. 18 to advance to the Class 2A state regionals. Taylor also had a team-high 25 points in the Cougars’ 57-50 win over Archbishop Murphy on Feb. 16.

Alivia White | Marysville Pilchuck | Girls Wrestling

White, a junior, won her second career state title after running off four straight pins in the girls 190-pound weight class at Mat Classic XXXIII on Feb. 18 and 19.
