Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for March 21-27

The Athlete of the Week nominees for March 21-27. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Caleb Podoll | Snohomish | Boys Soccer

Podoll, a junior, had a foot in five of Snohomish’s eight goals last week as the Panthers went 2-0. He contributed three assists in a 5-0 win over Marysville Getchell on March 16 and had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Stanwood on March 18. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for March 13-20 by claiming 1,228 (35.6%) of 3,450 votes.

Scarlette Chapman | Kamiak | Softball

Chapman, a sophomore, was nearly perfect at the plate while going 8-for-9 with six extra-base hits over two games last week. Chapman went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple in an 11-0 win over Edmonds-Woodway on March 21. She also went 4-for-5 with two home runs and a double in a 20-10 victory against Marysville Pilchuck on March 23.

Gabe Herrera | Archbishop Murphy | Boys Soccer

Herrera, a sophomore, scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 win over Arlington on March 22.

Tresley Love | Meadowdale | Girls Track & Field

Love, a junior, won the 100- and 800-meter races during a three-team meet at Arlington High School on March 24. Love ran the 100 in 12.87 seconds, finishing 1.22 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor, and the 800 in 2 minutes, 37.01 seconds. She also helped the Mavericks’ 4×400 relay team to a win and finished fourth in the shot put.

Gibby Marshall-Inman | Edmonds-Woodway | Baseball

Marshall-Inman, a senior, tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters to lead the Warriors to a 1-0 victory over Shorewood on March 23.

Kiana Schroeder | Lakewood | Girls Golf

Schroeder, a sophomore, led the Cougars to a pair of team wins with first-place finishes last week. Schroeder fired a 1-over 36 as Lakewood edged Cedarcrest 191-194 at Blue Heron Golf Course in Carnation on March 22. She followed that effort with a 1-under 35 to lead the Cougars to a dominant win in a seven-team match at Semiahmoo Golf Course in Blaine on March 24.

Koen Solis | Jackson | Boys Golf

Solis, a senior, shot a 1-under 70 to tie for first place with Ferndale’s Baylor Larrabee at the 14th Annual Everett Invitational at Legion Memorial Golf Course on March 24. Solis also helped the Timberwolves to a first-place team finish.

Jordan Velasquez | Marysville Pilchuck | Boys Track & Field

Velasquez, a senior, sprinted his way to a blazing time of 10.90 seconds to earn a victory in the 100-meter race during a three-team meet at Marysville Pilchuck High School on March 24. He also helped the Tomahawks’ 4×100 relay team to a first-place finish.

Hannah Wells | Snohomish | Girls Tennis

Wells, a sophomore, went 3-0 in her No. 3 singles matches while helping the Panthers to a 3-0 week. Wells started the week with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories and won 36 of 41 games in her three matches.
