Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Oct. 20-26

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 20-26. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Wednesday’s paper.

Harper Funston | Edmonds-Woodway Girls Soccer

The freshman forward recorded a hat trick in the Warriors’ 9-0 victory over Lynnwood on Oct. 15. Funston won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week for Oct. 13-19 by claiming 519 (47.75%) of the 1,087 votes.

This week’s nominees

Selena Bangerter | Jackson Girls Cross Country

The senior became a league champion for the fourth straight year as she won the Wesco 4A meet on Saturday by finishing the 5,000-meter course at Granite Falls High School in 18 minutes, 51.16 seconds.

Heidi Chambers | Snohomish Volleyball

Chambers helped the Panthers hand Stanwood its first league loss of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 sweep. She then tallied 14 kills, 13 digs, three blocks and two aces in a 3-0 sweep of Everett as Snohomish finished the week atop the Wesco 3A North standings.

Otto Erhart | Shorewood Boys Cross Country

The senior won the Wesco 3A South title with a time of 15 minutes, 37.10 seconds on the 5,000-meter course at Granite Falls H.S.

Keira Tupua | Lake Stevens Soccer

The junior forward tallied a goal and an assist in a 2-0 victory over Kamiak, which had previously been unbeaten in league play. Tupua then recorded a hat trick in a 5-0 victory over Cascade.
