Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Oct. 24-30

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 24-30. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in Nov. 1’s paper.

Joseph Davis | Marysville Pilchuck | Football

Davis, a sophomore, ran for 175 and three touchdowns to help the Tomahawks beat Mount Vernon 31-17 on Oct. 21. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week poll for Oct. 17-23 by claiming 409 (32.2%) of 1,271 votes.

This week’s nominees

Barrett Anderson | Stanwood | Volleyball

Anderson, a senior, piled up 20 kills and 13 digs in Stanwood’s 3-1 win over Marysville Pilchuck on Oct. 27.

Russell Anderson | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys Tennis

Anderson, a senior, topped younger brother Steven Anderson 7-6(7-2), 7-5 to earn the Class 3A District 1 singles title Oct. 27. Russell also defeated previously unbeaten Snohomish standout Cade Strickland 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Jacoby Falor | Arlington | Football

Falor, a junior, tossed four touchdown passes as Arlington beat Shorewood 30-7 on Oct. 29 to earn a Week 10 playoff berth. Falor finished with 201 yards passing and added another 72 yards on the ground.

Paige Gerrard | Snohomish | Girls Cross Country

Gerrard, a junior, claimed her second consecutive Class 3A District 1 title on Oct. 29 at Lakewood High School. She finished the 5,000-meter course more than 40 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a season-best time of 18 minutes, 25.3 seconds.

Blake Gettmann and Murray Falkin | Shorewood | Boys Tennis

Gettmann and Falkin, both seniors, defeated Edmonds-Woodway’s Grant Oliver and Nalu Akiona 6-1, 7-5 to secure the Class 3A District 1 doubles title Oct. 27. It’s the second consecutive district doubles title for Gettmann.

Elizabeth Plitnik | Kamiak | Girls Soccer

Plitnik, a junior, scored a pair of goals to help Kamiak edge Lake Stevens 4-3 on Oct. 25.

Luke Schmidt | Shorecrest | Boys Cross Country

Schmidt, a senior, won the Class 3A District 1 title on Oct. 29 at Lakewood High School. He finished the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 34.5 seconds.

Jersey Walker | Arlington | Girls Soccer

Walker, a sophomore, netted a hat trick as Arlington downed Edmonds-Woodway 3-0 on Oct. 25.
