This week’s nominees

Ferndale at Marysville Pilchuck, Friday, 7 p.m.

The Class 3A No. 9 Golden Eagles visit the 3A seventh-ranked Tomahawks in a top-10 showdown of unbeatens who are favored to the Wesco 3A North title. Ferndale (4-0, 2-0) league holds victories over 2A powerhouse Lynden and 3A North challenger Arlington. Marysville Pilchuck has rolled through its schedule while outscoring opponents by 41.3 points per game, including Friday’s stunning 49-14 beatdown of 4A No. 7 Glacier Peak.

Edmonds-Woodway at Monroe, Friday, 7 p.m.

The Warriors and Bearcats meet in a pivotal Wesco 3A South clash team’s favored to contend for a conference championship. The Warriors (1-3, 1-1 league) picked up their first win Friday, 48-7 over winless Lynnwood. The Bearcats (2-2, 1-0) have won two straight after dropping two challenging games to open the season, including a 48-7 rout of 4A Mariner on Friday.

Burlington-Edison at Lakewood, Friday, 7 p.m.

The Tigers and Cougars square off with hopes of keeping pace in the difficult Northwest 2A football conference. Burlington-Edison (2-1, 0-1 league) fell just short of an upset of 2A second-ranked Lynden, falling 38-35 Friday after the Lions hit a go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter. Lakewood (2-2, 1-1) edged 2A No. 5 Squalicum, 14-13, Friday for a huge bounce-back victory after losing 44-0 to Sedro-Woolley in its conference opener.

Note: This week’s poll has been updated to remove the Archbishop Murphy/Sedro-Woolley game. Sedro-Woolley pulled out of the game due to COVID-19 protocols, according to Archbishop Murphy athletic director Cassie Snell.
