Walters, Piland lead Monroe boys past Everett in OT

MONROE – Monroe’s Dan Walters was 3-for3 from 3-point range and made a crucial 3 late in the fourth quarter to send Monday’s Western Conference 3A boys basketball game into overtime as Monroe defeated Everett 77-74.

“If we did not hit that 3, there would have been no overtime,” Monroe coach Dave Brekke said. “It was one of those games that could have went either way.”

Travis Piland, who scored 15 points and had seven rebounds, rose to the occasion in overtime by scoring six of the Bearcats’ seven points in the extra period. Monroe improved to 2-0 in the conference and 4-2 overall.

Everett (0-2, 3-3) was led by Reggie Limar’s game-high 28 points.
