Hot late-fall walleye fishing is on tap at Potholes Reservoir as water temperatures inch down toward the 55-degree mark, according to Mike Meseberg, owner of MarDon Resort. That, along with last weekend’s statewide opening of the general waterfowl season, makes for an interesting “cast and blast” opportunity in the north Columbia Basin.
“Enjoy an early morning duck or goose hunt and an afternoon fishing trip,” Meseberg said. “With waterfowl counts in the northern nesting areas of Canada the highest in 42 years, duck and goose hunters are very excited about the current hunting season.”
There’s plenty of public hunting opportunity in the general Potholes area, including Winchester and Frenchman Hills wasteways, Lind Coulee, the Crab Creek valley, Gloyd Seeps, the reservoir itself, and others. The resort is information central for the huge recreation area, offering free advice to the public, maps of the area, guided fishing and hunting trips, bird cleaning services and more.
