The general trout opener is on the horizon, and there has been a lot of buzz among trout and kokanee fishermen about Mack’s Lures’ Wedding Ring/Glo Fly combo — sort of a Rooster Tail on steroids.
It’s a lightweight spinner that’s best trolled, but also can be cast by adding split shot. When trolled without additional weight, it runs at the shallow depths preferred by early-season kokanee and planted rainbows.
The size 2 blade comes in hammered nickel or brass; the beads in fluorescent pink, chartreuse and orange; the glo hook in hot cerise, chartreuse or white; and hook in sizes 8 or 12. The Glo Fly is basically a Glo Hook with sparse hackle.
This time of year, kokanee are holding from the surface down to about 15 feet, and newly planted trout are cruising close to shore in 6 to 8 feet of water.
