A daily look at the Mariners in spring training.
Wednesday in camp
Jamie Moyer pitched well in his final tuneup.
Moyer gave up five hits and two runs in five innings of a 5-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals in his last spring training start before he pitches the Mariners’ season opener Monday.
Moyer wobbled early, giving up two runs in the first inning and four hits in the first two innings, but he finished strong. He retired nine of the final 10 hitters he faced.
“He got his outing in,” manager Mike Hargrove said. “He was a little rough in the first inning, but he found his command and pitched well.”

On the trainer’s table
Relief pitcher Eddie Guardado performed agility drills Wednesday morning and was cleared to pitch in a minor league game today.
Shortstop Pokey Reese missed his third straight game because of a sore right shoulder. His status is considered day-to-day.
Pitcher Rafael Soriano threw from the front portion of the mound Wednesday as he works his way back from “Tommy John” elbow surgery. He is expected to be at full strength by mid-season.
They said it
“Spring training has gone by fairly quickly, but these last couple of days have seemed like a year and a half.”

Ichiro Suzuki waited until his third at-bat of the day, but he bumped his record spring training hitting streak to 18 games Wednesday with a sixth-inning single. Suzuki has hit safely in every game he has played this month and earlier this week broke Ken Griffey Jr.s’ 1989 team spring training record. Suzuki went 1-for-3 Wednesday and is batting .492.
