Wednesday Mora press conference

Seahawks coach Jim Mora said his team should be healthy when it heads to Houston Sunday. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will be “very limited” in practice today, but his sore shoulder is nothing serious.

“He’s just sore,” Mora said. “There’s nothing structurally wrong.”

Running back Justin Forsett should be good to go after being limited last week with a quadriceps injury. Mora said Forsett should see an increased roll this week. Linebacker D.D. Lewis, who missed last week’s game with a knee injury, will also be limited this week and will have his knee drained, but he is expected to play. Defensive end Cory Redding, who missed last week’s game with a concussion, will be back at practice this week and should play.

The Seahawks will practice inside this week, even though their unheated indoor facility is probably colder than the outside air temperature. Mora said he’d like to have the team practice outside this week, especially since the Texans play on grass, but that won’t happen because the grass fields here in Renton are frozen.

The press conference then devolved into a rather humorous conversation on uniforms (the Seahawks wore different pants on Sunday, the dark blue ones they wore with the lime green jerseys earlier this season), and the fantasy football team of PI columnist Jim Moore (he’s got John Carlson on his team and wants to know whether or not he should keep the Seahawks tight end on his team). So I’ll spare you the details of that.

Though I must give credit where credit is due. After we all got done laughing at Moore asking about his fantasy team, Mora gave a better answer on Carlson than he has in recent weeks when questions about his productivity have come up. Mora said Carlson needs to improve his second-level release, meaning the tight end is sometimes having a hard time with physical play of linebackers when he’s running routes. Mora said that as Carlson develops he’ll learn to play with a lower pad level, which should help him create separation when defenders get physical.

Also, on the Houston end of things, Texans coach Gary Kubiak said on a conference call this morning that running back Steve Slaton is going on injured reserve with a neck injury. Kubiak said quarterback Matt Schaub, who dislocated his non-throwing shoulder last week, is expected to play.
