You probably know by now that there is a three-way tie for third place in the eight-team Wesco 3A football division. Everett (lost against Glacier Peak Thursday night), Mountlake Terrace (beat Lynnwood Thursday night) and Shorecrest all finished the regular season with a 4-3 record in league games.
Meanwhile, Wesco 3A’s top two teams are Glacier Peak (7-0) and Meadowdale (5-2, after its win over Oak Harbor on Thursday). The division has three automatic quad-district playoff berths and one play-in game berth. GP and Meadowdale snared two of the three automatic berths, so that leaves Everett, Mountlake Terrace and Shorecrest to fight it out for the Wesco 3A No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.
Here’s how they will do it, according to Everett School District athletic director Robert Polk:
Due to the results of Thursday night’s 3A Wesco football, we have a 3-way tie for places 3-5. Mountlake Terrace, Everett and Shorecrest will meet Saturday at 5PM at Shoreline Stadium to play for seeding into the quad-district football playoffs. Admission- Adults, students without ASB, seniors and children – $2. HS students with ASB from any school enter for free.
The three-team showdown on Saturday will have a Kansas City tiebreaker format, which means in each game both teams will get a possession at the 25-yard line. It’s the same format used for overtime games in Washington high school football.
Here is the schedule for the three-team tiebreaker:
Game 1 at 5 p.m.
Mountlake Terrace vs. Everett
Game 2
Game 1 winner vs. Shorecrest (winner is Wesco 3A No. 3 seed)
Game 3 (if necessary)
Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser (winner is Wesco 3A No. 4 seed)
NOTE: Game 3 is only necessary if Game 1 loser and Game 2 loser have not already played on Saturday. If they have already played, the winner of that initial game is the Wesco 3A No. 4 seed.
Got all that? It should be a wild weekend for these three teams. Good luck to all of them.
