The Western Conference senior all-star baseball games will be played today at the Husky Ballpark on the University of Washington campus in Seattle.
There will be two North Division vs. South Division games, one at 10 a.m. and one at 2 p.m.
Selected players from the games will be nominated for the all-state series to be played next Saturday in Wenatchee.

Player of the year: Shorecrest pitcher Kristina Thorson has been selected the Gatorade high school softball player of the year for Washington. She becomes one of 48 finalists for the national player of the year award.
Thorson led her team to a second-place finish in last weekend’s Class 4A state tournament. Through games of May 15, Thorson was 16-1 with a 0.19 earned run average and 218 strikeouts. The Cal-Berkely-bound senior has a 3.95 grade point average.
Coaching news: Rick Lee, who helped revive the Mariner boys soccer program this spring, has been named the head coach of the Marauders’ girls basketball program … Scott Sifferman has resigned as the head baseball coach at Sultan … Corliss Liekkio is stepping down after five years as the head tennis coach at Shorewood … King’s has hired Susan Riley, the junior varsity coach last season at Lynnwood, as its volleyball head coach. Riley previous coached the combined gymnastics program at Shorecrest and Shorewood for six years … Shorecrest has hired Bill Riley as its boys basketball coach … Archbishop Murphy is taking applications for two fall sports coaching positions, volleyball and boys soccer. Scholastic Cup winners: The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has announced its Scholastic Cup winners for the 2001-2002 school year. Schools are given points throughout the year for their athletic, academic and sportsmanship achievements. Points are decucted for having two or more player or coach ejections over the course of the school year.
The top five schools in each classification were:
4A – 1. Capital, 2. Mead, 3. Kentwood, 4. Ferris, 5. Auburn-Riverside.
3A – 1. Seattle Prep, 2. Mercer Island, 3. Bellevue, 4. Newport, 5. Sammamish.
2A – 1. Connell, 2. South Whidbey, 3. Ephrata, 4. Pullman, 5. Cashmere.
A – 1. Overlake, 2. Colfax, 3. Freeman, 4. Bellevue Christian, 5. Brewster.
B – 1. Evergreen Lutheran, 2. Almira/Coulee-Hartline, 3. Pateros, 4. Cedar Park Christian, 5. Darrington.
