What Holmgren is saying about Cleveland. Plus an injury report

Mike Holmgren did his weekly radio show earlier today, and among other things talked about the open job in Cleveland which he discussed earlier this week with Browns owner Randy Lerner.

Holmgren didn’t say there was a set date on when a decision would come, but said he’d like it to be sooner than later in fairness to the Browns. And while Holmgren didn’t say he was offered the job, he did say “I had a pretty good feeling when I left.”

As for the job itself, Holmgren spoke highly of Lerner and called the job “very, very appealing” because there would be no layers between him and the owner (something there would be in Seattle with Tod Leiweke).

Asked about reports that the Seahawks have told him he will not be a candidate for the job, Holmgren said:

“No, I have not been told that, but who knows. I’m very sure that the org wants to go through a process, that’s been made clear… No one has come to me or phoned me or said anything to me that I couldn’t be part of that process or wouldn’t be. That’s not to say that I will be part of the process, but no one has told me no.”

And asked if he has seen any discouraging signs regarding the Seahawks job he said:

“No, other than the fact that there is a little bit of time crunch here involved with Cleveland and some other people, so as we’re getting down to the last two weeks of the season, maybe I was hoping for a few more positive signs, but no, nothing specific.”

The Seahawks, meanwhile, are still staying quiet on their GM search.

And in case all this Holmgren/GM talk made you forget there is a game this weekend, here is your reminder that the Seahawks are in fact still playing and host Tampa Bay Sunday.

Here’s the final injury report for the week, which includes the news that Aaron Curry should play.
