Because of poor weather and heavy surf, the March coastal razor clam dig was not as successful as had been anticipated. The upside is that more clams remain available for two digs in April, the first of which is scheduled for today, Friday and Saturday on Long Beach and Twin Harbors beaches only. Th
e tides are not great, but diggers can still take a limit of clams, assuming moderate surf.
Tides are as follows: today, 0.1 feet at 9:37 a.m.; Friday, 0.2 feet at 10:19 a.m.; and Saturday, 0.4 feet at 11:07 a.m.
State Fish and Wildlife Department clam manager Dan Ayres in the agency’s Montesano office reminded diggers that new 2011-2012 licenses are required, either annual shellfish or three-day razor clam. Licenses are available at tackle shops and outdoor equipment outlets around the state, online at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/, or by phone at 1-866-246-9453.
