Yesterday I posted a blog about some of our former prep basketball stars. The point was to tell readers like you what these athletes are up to these days.

Since then I received a few reader responses telling me about other previously local standouts. So here are more updates.

*Nathan Lozeau: The 2007 Marysville-Pilchuck graduate was a member of the University of San Diego men’s basketball until about a month ago, when he decided to leave. I talked to Lozeau on the phone yesterday and he said he plans to transfer to Portland State University and play for head coach Ken Bone. Lozeau, a 6-foot-10 center, averaged 7.7 minutes per game in six appearances this season for San Diego. Lozeau said his main reasons for leaving San Diego were lack of playing time and feeling homesick.

*Tim Diederichs: The 2007 Snohomish grad is a sophomore at Loyola Marymount University in L.A. The 6-foot-9 forward made significant contributions as a freshman (8.2 points, 3.4 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game). But early this season Diederichs injured his right shoulder in practice. He played limited minutes in three games and then had surgery on the shoulder. Diederichs will miss the rest of the 2008-09 season and plans to apply for a medical redshirt, according to an e-mail from John Shaffer, assistant athletics director in media services at Loyola Marymount.

Tim’s brother Rob Diederichs is playing at Seattle Pacific University. Through Sunday, Rob (a junior forward who prepped at Shorewood) had started all 16 of SPU’s games. He was averaging 9.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 25.8 minutes per game.

*Jocelyn Riordan: The 2008 Shorecrest grad is playing hoops at University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. A freshman guard, Riordan was averaging 8.1 points and 2.8 rebounds in 27.2 minutes, as of Jan. 24. According to Jocelyn’s mom, Jocelyn plans to throw the javelin this spring for the UPS track and field team.

*Jason Waltman: The 2008 Monroe grad, a 6-6 freshman forward, is playing basketball for Northwest University in Kirkland. He is averaging 6.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game.
