ARLINGTON, Texas — Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks got through a bullpen session Saturday without any problems and should be ready to pitch after the All-Star break.
“I got good news from our pitching coach. He’s ready to go,” manager Ozzie Guillen said. “Hopefully when we come out of the break, he’ll be ready to come off the DL when he’s scheduled.”
Jenks has been on the disabled list with bursitis near his left (non-pitching) shoulder. He was placed on the DL on July 9, retroactive to June 30. He will be eligible to be activated before the White Sox play their first game after the All-Star break Friday at home against Kansas City.
The 27-year-old Jenks is 2-0 with a 1.95 ERA and 18 saves for the AL Central leaders. He last pitched June 29, getting the save against the Chicago Cubs to complete a three-game sweep.
Jenks’ return might not be the only change in the White Sox pitching staff after the break, Guillen said. The manager said there was a meeting of the pitchers before Saturday’s game, though he didn’t get into specifics about what changes might be made.
“You can’t please everybody,” Guillen said. “If you please people and not think about the ballclub, it’s going to be a hard job. I expect somebody will be upset, disappointed. If they are, that’s the way it is, but we’re doing the best we can to put it together.”
