It’s not an ultimate makeover, but several noticeable changes will create a different look to the prep sports landscape next fall.
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Thursday announced new league alignments for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 school years. The changes accounts for updated enrollment figures and the addition of a new 1B classification. From largest to smallest, the six classes are 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, 2B and 1B.
Here is how the revamped local leagues will look:
Western Conference North Division (3A/4A): Arlington (3A), Cascade (4A), Everett (3A), Lake Stevens (4A), Marysville-Pilchuck (4A), Monroe (4A), Oak Harbor (4A), Snohomish (4A) and Stanwood (4A). Everett moves from the Wesco South to replace Mount Vernon, which leaves the Wesco North to join the 1A/2A/3A Northwest Conference.
Western Conference South Division (3A/4A): Edmonds-Woodway (4A), Jackson (4A), Kamiak (4A), Lynnwood (3A), Mariner (4A), Meadowdale (3A), Mountlake Terrace (4A), Shorecrest (3A) and Shorewood (4A).
Cascade Conference (1A/2A): Archbishop Murphy (2A), Cedarcrest (2A), Coupeville (1A), Granite Falls (2A), King’s (1A), Lakewood (2A), South Whidbey (2A) and Sultan (2A). Coupeville moves to the Cascade Conference after competing last season in the Northwest 1A/B League.
Northwest 2B/1A: Concrete (2B), Darrington (2B), Friday Harbor (1A), La Conner (2B), Mount Vernon Christian (2B), Orcas Island (2B) and Shoreline Christian (2B).
Northwest 1B: Arlington Christian, Cedar Park Christian (Everett Campus), Grace Academy, Lopez Island, Lummi, Master’s Touch Christian, North Sound Christian, Skykomish and Tulalip Heritage.
