It’s Thursday, the sun is out, and the NFL season is underway, but here on this blog we’re all about Husky football. Ok, so maybe the Giants and Redskins are on in the background, but we’re almost all about Husky football.
Anyway, enough of that. Thursday’s are Tyrone Willingham only with the media, so nothing from players or assistant coaches.
No major news today from Willingham. He did say that Michael Gottlieb worked all of practice yesterday, and that his hamstring held up well.
“He had a full day of work, and we’ll see what today brings,” he said. “It’s always the day after the full day of work that tells you where he’s at.”
The day after being today, Gottlieb looked at practice like that full day of work might have left him a little sore, as he was moving a little slow and with a bit of a limp. Brandon Johnson missed the early part of yesterday’s practice doing rehab work in the pool, and again was absent from the early part of today’s practice. Willingham didn’t say if Johnson, who suffered a calf injury during fall camp but played against Oregon, will play or not, but hinted that if he is in the pool this late in the week, he may not be able to go. If he doesn’t play, Willingham said the backup tailback job would fall to either Willie Griffin or David Freeman.
The Huskies were doing a two-minute drill during the portion of practice open the media, and it was the No. 1 defense against the No 2 offense with, of course, a few players rotating in and out. Yesterday, the No. 1 offense scored a touchdown against the No. 2 defense right as we were leaving practice. Today, the first-string defense won the battle, getting a turnover on downs, which, I suppose is a good sign that the No. 1 units are getting their jobs done.
All for now.
