Most of the time when I shoot sports, I’m looking for a “winning” picture or a “losing” picture. And if given the time, more than likely, I’m looking to make a photo of the “play”. Most of the time in preps, though, the “play” occurs after the photo deadline, so I’m stuck trying to figure out which team will pull out the victory from observing just the first half of a game. In the case of Edmonds-Woodway vs. Kamiak at Goddard Stadium Friday night, the game was tied 7-7 at half and the teams looked pretty evenly matched, with a slight edge to Edmonds-Woodway. Of course, after I left, E-W took off and scored 28 unanswered points to win with the convincing score of 35-7. Luckily, I was able to make a “losing” photo and a “winning” photo within a minute and half of each other.
The first photo shows a great defensive play by Kamiak’s Alex Tilley as he stretched out in the endzone to just barely get a fingertip on what would have been a touchdown by E-W’s Antoine Wafer.
Here is the sequence.
The very next play, Edmonds-Woodway quarterback Kyle McCartney went again to Wafer in the endzone, and this time Wafer made a wonderful jump and tipped the ball to himself over the head of Kamiak’s Justin Glenn for the touchdown.
Here is the sequence.
Two consecutive plays, two distinctly different results, two perfect photos for whatever the game outcome happened to be.
