1. Minnesota Lynx (11-4), last week: 2, The Lynx won both games this week with Seimone Augustus leading the way. The Lynx have established themselves once again as the cream of the crop in the West. Big game coming up this Friday against the Storm.
2. Connecticut Sun (10-5), last week: 3, The Sun won their only game this week and maintain their virtual tie with the Indiana Fever for first place in the Eastern Conference. The question is will any other teams in the East step up to challenge the top two.
3. Indiana Fever (11-6), last week: 5, The Fever also won their only game this week. Make no mistake, Indiana has the most talent in the East, but can they make a move to distance themselves from the field.
4. Seattle Storm (9-7), last week: not ranked, The Storm have won two straight to return to the list of the league’s elite. A home victory over the San Antonio Silver Stars and a road victory over the Phoenix Mercury can all but guarantee that the rest of the league must once again take notice.
5. Phoenix Mercury (10-6), last week: 1, The Mercury have lost two in a row to fall from first to third in the West. As always, the Mercury are dangerous offensively, but when they meet teams like the Storm who can slow down the attack, Phoenix becomes vulnerable.
Best of the worst: San Antonio Silver Stars (10-5), last week: 4, The Silver Stars were exposed in a 73-55 loss to the Storm last Thursday night. San Antonio is still one of the top teams in the West, but as the season continues, I look for Minnesota, Phoenix and Seattle to establish themselves as the top three.
Worst of the worst: Tulsa Shock (1-15), last week: worst of the worst, The Shock continue to add coaches and make roster moves, nothing seems to help. This is a team in disarray that is reaching a losing streak of Seattle Mariner like proportions.
Watch out for: Atlanta Dream (7-9), last week: not ranked, The defending Eastern Conference champions are on a roll, this smells of last season when they came on late and made it to the WNBA Finals. Don’t sleep on the Dream.
