PULLMAN — Washington State University coach Paul Wulff is losing backup quarterback Cole Morgan.
Morgan says he’s transferring to Western Washington University in Bellingham because he’s in search of playing time.
Morgan led Ballard High School of Seattle to the 2003 Class 4A state championship game won by Pasco. He delayed enrolling at Washington State until 2005.
He appeared in one game for the Cougars against Idaho in 2006 as a redshirt freshman. As a sophomore, he was the Cougars’ third-string quarterback most of last season.
Gary Rogers, who played at Kamiak High School, is scheduled to be the starting quarterback for Wulff this fall, with Kevin Lopina and Marshall Lobbestael expected to get some playing time.
Morgan is a junior in eligibility and is expected to challenge Adam Perry of Longview for the starting job at Western Washington this fall. He will be eligible immediately because he’s transferring from an NCAA Division I school to a Division II school.
