WVSO treats local racers right

I spent a good part of Sunday in Everett at the Imagine Children’s Museum, watching my granddaughter enjoy the activites. Oh, and there were some race cars there, too.

Several Mini-Stock drivers from the Evergreen Speedway and the Outlaw Compacts series were there, as well as motocross long-jumper Ryan Capes.

I’ll post some shots from Sunday later this week, but I wanted to share with you the tale that the Mini drivers told me of their determination to race on Saturday. After the Outlaw event at Ephrata Raceway Park was rained out, a bunch of them trucked over to East Wenatchee to the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval.

Although not on the program, WVSO invited them in, gave them some practice time and let them race. How’s that for service? Big Bravo Zulu to WVSO for doing it the right way.

Here’s an email from Clint Lang, who along with wife Kim races in the No. 33 Mini-Stock at Evergreen and with the Outlaws.

Scott,

It was quite a weekend. Three and a half hour drive to Ephrata Saturday morning. Unload at 2pm, occasional thunderstorms. One finally zeroed in on the track about 4pm, good lightning. At about 5pm show is called off. Storm gone and sun out shortly after. We start talking about where we could go race, “What about Yakima?” “No, that’s a half mile track and we all got quarter mile gears.” What about Spokane” “What about Stateline” etc… Then someone called Wenatchee and they said come on over.

So we all start heading over in a big convoy, (yes, I was singing the song) and calling the drivers who had already left for home to get them to head to Wenatchee. We had 18 cars at Ephrata, we made it to Wenatchee with 14. Two kept heading for home and two had mech problems at Ephrata and went home.

We arrive at 7:30pm, their show had already started! They let us in and even gave us a 10 min practice session during their show. We got heat races and a 30 lap main. This was the coolest adventure I have had in racing. As soon as the show was over at Wenatchee and we were loading up, it started raining! Went to dinner then headed over Hwy 2 for home.

We left Wenatchee at 1am. No all night espresso stands on that route if you were wondering. Made two stops to stretch the legs and wake up, and arrived home at 3:30am. Climb in bed at 4am. Phone rings at 7:30am! Up and at em. Get ready for the museum, and find an espresso stand! Show up unload and try and wipe down the car from the rainy, muddy ride over the pass. I really love racing!
