The University of Washington football team appears to have survived a serious injury scare, but it’s still unclear when senior cornerback Quinton Richardson will be back on the practice field.
Richardson was on crutches when the Huskies were honored before Sunday’s Seattle Mariners game, still healing from an injury to his lower leg that he suffered in a Saturday night practice. The school announced through its athletic department website that X-rays for a possible fracture came up negative, meaning it’s more likely Richardson has a sprain or contusion in the vicinity of his ankle.
Richardson has been UW’s starting cornerback for much of the past three seasons. He started all 13 games in 2010 and is slated as a likely starter again this season. Backups Greg Ducre and Anthony Gobern have a little experience at the position, while nickel back Justin Glenn and true freshman Marcus Peters provide other options.
The Huskies did not practice Sunday and will be back on the field for two sessions today. The night practice is open to the public, beginning at 7 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
