In case you hadn’t heard already, Kennedy defensive end Everette Thompson is the latest players to commit to Washington. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound Thompson is the 11th-ranked defensive end in the country by scout.com.
I talked to Kennedy coach Bob Bourgette today, who said Thompson called him this morning and said, “I’m a Dawg.” This was after Bourgette tried to convince me that Thompson was really going to WSU before eventually giving himself away with a laugh. Now that would have been an interesting story.
Anyway, this commit is pretty big for the Huskies, who lose a lot of experience on the defensive line. It also means that Willingham and his staff went four for four on the state’s “big four” that remained uncommitted as of a few weeks ago. Rainier Beach lineman Alameda Ta’amu, Lakes receiver Jermaine Kearse, Lakes tight end Kavario Middleton, and Thompson were viewed as four of the top recruits in the state, so for a 4-9 team to get all four is a pretty big victor for the Huskies.
And here are a few links for you today as well.
The men’s basketball team beat Portland State last night behind big games by local players Ryan Appleby and Jon Brockman.
And while it’s not exactly a Husky story, Jon Sleeper’s column on Rick Neuheisel is definitely worth checking out. And speaking of everyone’s favorite former Husky coach, Neuheisel is reportedly still in the running for the head coaching job at UCLA.
Just think how much fun it would be having Neuheisel back in the Pac-10. The Huskies would instantly have another huge rivalry game every year as long as he is there. And for those who like to plan ahead, UCLA plays at Washington on Nov. 15 next season. I really have no idea if Neuheisel would be good for UCLA, but he sure would be fun for reporters. Consider me on the Neuheisel bandwagon.
