The Stealth announced the re-signing of forward Jeff Zywicki, a force on offense for the team last season.
Zywicki, who has scored at least 70 points for four consecutive seasons and was selected a second-team All-Pro in 2008, recorded 71 points last year (30 goals, 41 assists) despite missing three games due to a lower body injury late in the season.
The University of Massachusetts product was a major contributor in the Stealth’s championship run with nine goals and four assists in three playoff games.
“Jeff is one of the top forwards in the NLL and is a huge part of our team,” Stealth general Manager Doug Locker said in a press release. “Having him back and ready to go for our 2011 Champion’s Cup defense is a very, very big thing for our organization and we are thrilled to have him in camp. He was a key reason we were as successful as we were last season and we look forward to great things from him again this season.”
In five NLL seasons, Zywicki has accumulated 357 points (177g, 180a) in 75 regular season games. He is second on the Stealth’s all-time goals list and third in points. In his All-Pro 2008 season, he set the Stealth single season goals record with 48 and finished the season with 90 points. Zywicki is also a two-time NLL All-Star and played in the 2009 NLL All-Star series in Australia. He was named to the NLL All-Rookie team in 2006 after being drafted eighth overall by the Stealth in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft.
Zywicki has had an equally lucrative career in the field game. He won back-to-back Major League Lacrosse Championships in 2008 and 2009 as a member of the Rochester Rattlers and Toronto Nationals, respectively. In 2006, Zywicki led Team Canada to its first World Championships gold medal since 1978, earning All-World honors after posting a tournament-high 28 goals. He and his teammates from the gold medal-winning squad were inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame following the World Championships.
