A public hearing on a new 225-lot subdivision in Mill Creek drew comments from two citizens, one taking issue with the city’s environmental review of the project.

In a 4-1 vote, the city planning commission voted to recommend the city council approve a 225-lot subdivision, located at the west side of 35th Ave. SE, sout of Silver Crest Drive and north of 144th St. SE.

The single family subdivision is planned on a 37-acre lot, known as “Mill Creek East.” The City Council is scheduled to discuss the resolution in its April 8 study session, with action scheduled for April 22. Both meetings are open to the public.

Lot sizes for the development are proposed to range from 1,500 square feet for attached units to 7,350 for detached. The applicant, Peterson Consulting of Kirkland, requested a reduction in setbacks, among other changes to standard planned residential development requirements.

The city issued a draft environmental impact statement on the development in February.

The commission made the vote after a public hearing on the resolution in which one audience member spoke, and a second filed written testimony.

Tom Murdoch, director of Adopt-a-Stream, spoke to the commission. He took issue with the city’s environmental impact statement, arguing that Mill Creek East could not happen without the Thomas Lake reclamation project; therefore, both projects should be viewed, from an environmental review perspective, as one project.
