It is a common New Year’s tradition to make a resolution for the coming year. While The Enterprise has a few that we’ll just keep to ourselves, here are some suggestions for others:
King County
• Now that Council reorganization will occur, make sure real streamlining of processes happens, too.
• Go back to an appointed sheriff. Chief Sue Rahr, who served Shoreline well, is a great interim choice, but we need top cops focusing on the job, not votes.
Snohomish County
• Give the residents south of 128th Street some reason to care what happens in Everett.
South County cities
• No merging but put the bickering aside and reopen service consolidation talks.
Edmonds
• Don’t get distracted by relatively minor but needed code changes that will keep downtown the vibrant, livable place its now. There are bigger things coming: Edmonds Crossing?
Lake Forest Park
• The City Council must do what it takes to revitalize the city’s retail business areas, including town center, and do it before midnight.
Lynnwood
• The mall and convention center projects got done but Council and staff must acknowledge the suggestions and complaints and fix the process before tackling city center.
Mill Creek
• The city is growing – commercially with Town Center and the possibility of a Home Depot or Wal-Mart and residentially through annexations – but the staff is shrinking. The Council must do more than cut budgets.
Mountlake Terrace
• City Council members must stay focused on doing the public’s business instead of beating up each other if the city’s new and overdue fire station project is to go smoothly.
Shoreline
• A vocal and organized group of merchants is at odds with city government. Just think what could be accomplished if both sides were working together in a framework of mutual respect.
