Northwest Opera in Schools Etcetera (or NOISE for short) will performing selections from Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” March 23 as part of Lynnwood’s Fantastic Fridays performance series.
NOISE is a professional opera company which presents fully-staged adaptations of well-known opera classics complete with costumes and sets. In its 24th season of presenting entertaining and educational opera programs to children in Washington State, to date NOISE has staged over 2,400 performances, viewed by 50,000 students each year.
Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” is a classic operatic comedy about love, mistaken identities and a whole lot of shaving cream. Cartoon fans may recall the classic animated Bugs Bunny cartoon “Rabbit of Seville,” an homage to the 19th-century opera.
The program’s target audience is kindergarten through sixth grade, but older audiences will enjoy the show too.
NOISE’s professional singers and musicians have performed with New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, Portland Opera Association, Houston Grand Opera, New Orleans Opera, Minnesota Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, and Seattle Opera as well as on Broadway and in international productions.
Fantastic Fridays performances are sponsored in part by the City of Lynnwood Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, Lynnwood Arts Commission, Edmonds Community College Student Programs, Rock-It Music and a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
