A promise kept

Shorewood High School teacher Tammy Ceesay made a bet with her Relay for Life team: If each of them raised $100, she’d shave her head.

Relay for Life, which was June 7 and June 8 at King’s Stadium in Shoreline, raises money for the American cancer society. Teams band together to raise money and walk at the event.

“Team Ceesay” exceeded its goal and raised over $1,600, plus money they donated at the event. The team of about 15 people was mostly young adults, including Shorewood students. Shoreline teachers Veronica Cook and Stanley Eberhard were also on the team.

At Shorewood Campus Day June 10 in the student activity center, student Christian Shaber shaved Ceesay’s head.

When students asked Ceesay why she did it, she responded, “I made a promise to my team and this is what you do when you make a promise. You keep it,” Cook said.

The team is still taking donations. To donate, see http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RelayForLifeGreatWestDivision
