A Walk in the Arts

Get ready to experience the arts as the annual Edmonds Arts Festival preview, Walk the Arts, kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 15 with its opening night “Evening of the Arts” celebration.

In conjunction with the monthly Third Thursday Artwalk, the event launches the month-long self-guided walking tour through local businesses where artwork by Festival artists will be on display prior to the Arts Festival June 20-22.

In addition to the works of 48 of the artists selected to participate at the festival, more activities are planned at other downtown locations. An exhibit and reception featuring Edmonds artists James Martin and Joyeanna Chaudiere will be joined by a demonstration and exhibit by the Seaview Weavers at City Hall, 3rd Floor, located at 121 5th Ave. N. Art activities for children take place at the corner of 5th &Bell, while an exhibit of the Top 20 Junior Artists from the 2003 festival will be on display in the Dayton Building at 5th &Dayton.

Live music and dance will take place between Main &Bell on 5th, with performances by the Edmonds Community College Soundsation Jazz Choir, Meadowdale High School Dance Team, Cascade Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble, Edmonds-Woodway High School MelloAires, Driftwood Players, Breaking Point Dance Company and Barclay Shelton Dance Centre. Strolling musicians will be on hand during the evening as well.

Red banners throughout the downtown core will identify participating merchants. Pick up a “Passport to the Arts” and collect 25 stamps from those businesses to enter a drawing to win prizes.

Evening of the Arts takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is jointly sponsored by the Edmonds Arts Festival, City of Edmonds Arts Commission &Parks Dept., Edmonds Arts Festival Foundation, and the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.
